ST. PAUL — Minnesota United has loaned attacker Romario Ibarra to Pachuca of Mexico’s Liga MX, a source confirmed to the St. Paul Pioneer Press on Tuesday, May 21. The terms of the loan is for 13 months, with an option for Pachuca to buy Ibarra’s contract in 2020.

United was looking to add additional finances for acquisitions in this summer’s transfer window, which runs July 7-Aug. 7, the source said. This transaction is on top of the $400,000 in MLS allocation money the Loons received in the Francisco Calvo-to-Chicago trade in early May.

Ibarra’s stint in Minnesota comes to an end after less than a calendar year. He was acquired in a transfer during the 2018 summer transfer window from Universidad Catolica in Ecuador’s top league.

Ibarra, 24, had three goals and no assists in 271 minutes across nine games last season. This year, Ibarra had two goals and one assist in 381 minutes in eight games.

Ibarra, a member of Ecuador’s national team, was absent from Tuesday’s training for “personal reasons,” the club said.
